Among the first worldwide installations of its kind, the winning, integrated solution consists of SAP Digital Manufacturing Cloud for Execution and S/4HANA Public Cloud.

Weinheim, May 12, 2021 — Smart Press Shop, a Joint Venture for body parts production between Porsche and Schuler, has won the SAP Innovation Award 2021 with Syntax’s leadership.

Syntax helped Smart Press Shop develop a fully public cloud-based, integrated SAP solution consisting of SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud and SAP Digital Manufacturing Cloud for Execution for a new press shop in Halle (Saale) in Germany. This is one of the world’s first installations of its kind in discrete manufacturing, making it a model project for industrial companies looking to move to the public cloud with SAP S/4HANA.

As a pure cloud installation, the award-winning solution requires no computing capacity and no on-site IT team. Syntax has taken over the system’s operations. It has been running productively since March 2021 as an application-based managed service. With Syntax managing the system, Smart Press Shop can now concentrate fully on its core business: producing car body parts.

“We are very pleased and proud that the award committee has recognized and honored us,” said Hendrik Rothe, Managing Director of Smart Press Shop. “And who better to judge the innovation potential of an SAP solution than the software manufacturer itself. My thanks go to the entire team, the Smart Press Shop staff and the experts from Syntax and SAP. Syntax gave us excellent support from solution design to go-live and helped us win the award.”

“If you want to be innovative, you also need a fair amount of courage,” said Björn Bartheidel, Vice President Intelligent Industry Services at Syntax. “The Smart Press Shop team not only had an idea of what they wanted to achieve with their new SAP solution; they also had the courage to embark on an adventure with Syntax that virtually no one had taken before. For that, they have my great respect—and I’m delighted that this courage has been rewarded with the SAP Innovation Award.”

Smart Press Shop is a joint venture between Schuler AG, a subsidiary of the Andritz Group and Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG. Together, they are setting up a company for the production of car body parts in Halle (Saale). Efficient, innovative and flexible, the press shop will soon be a reliable partner for all car manufacturers. The focus will be on producing outer panel parts in aluminum or steel.
